Общее название пяти законодательных актов - Национального закона о сохранении энергетических ресурсов [National Energy Conservation Policy Act], обеспечившего финансирование программ по сбережению энергоресурсов; Закона о налогообложении предприятий энергетики [Energy Tax Act], предусматривающего снижение их зависимости от импорта энергоносителей и содействие программам использования солнечной энергии; Закона о политике в области использования природного газа [Natural Gas Policy Act], снявшего контроль государства над ценами на природный газ; Закона о регулировании деятельности коммунальных служб [Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act] и Закона об электростанциях и промышленном использовании энергии [Power Plant and Industrial Use Act], стимулирующего расширение использования угля.
